Scrapping the holidays

I wasn’t feeling witty or insightful today, but I was feeling scrappy, so all I have for you today is two layouts recapping a few moments from our holiday and yummy recipes.

The following two designs are from the talented Cathy Zielske’s Design Your Life Class.

Every year, we get together with my MIL’s side of the family a few days before Christmas for a cracker lunch. No, the name doesn’t refer to the food we eat or the guests that attend; it refers to the British tradition my MIL adopted, in which we open Christmas crackers before eating. Of course, it’s mandatory to wear the paper crown during lunch.
As a sidenote, I have to say that I love this LO design and will probably be reusing it in the future.

We had such a fun New Year’s Eve with our friends, enjoying a night of homemade fondue and Wii games. Yes, the Horror Queen was the character I chose for us to play in Scene It. Over 30 years of age, I still can’t pass up an opportunity to be a little goth. πŸ˜‰
A few foodie notes from the night:
*I took my Crazy for Craisins recipe, dyed the white chocolate green and put them in a Wilton silicone Christmas tree mold. For a completely different taste, you could use the same process to fold chocolate chips into melted mint chocolate.
*Our friends used this Rachael Ray recipe for the cheese fondue. While it tastes great as fondue, the burnt layer at the bottom of the pan tastes even better!
*If you ever need a great chocolate fondue recipe, try the following (modified from a cookbook because I can never make a recipe the way it’s intended). Melt 8 oz of Baker’s semisweet chocolate. Add the juice of one large orange. This will make the chocolate look a little gooky, but it’ll be okay, I promise. Mix in four tablespoons of heavy cream. Finally, add one tablespoon of Grand Marnier (or another orange-flavored liquor). Strawberries and pound cake taste yummy in this chocolate, as do bananas and marshmallows, both rolled in crushed walnuts after you dip them in the chocolate.

    I've never heard of a Cracker Lunch before! Sounds like so much fun! My boys want to wear crowns for every meal now, lol!

  4. I'm in DYL with you, but haven't done anything yet. My word for 2010 is “wholehearted”. I want to give my whole heart to my endeavors – like DYL – why take the class if I'm not going to participate fully? I've got way too many UFO's from past classes. Got to get cracking!
