Great Books Week: Day 1

Today’s question on the Great Books Week Blog Tour is:

If I were stranded alone on a deserted island with only seven books to read over the next few years, I would like to have…

This is almost a no-brainer for me. Disclaimer: this prompt didn’t ask for the best-written books ever read. I have already admitted that some of my favorite books are not well written.

  1. The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton
  2. Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris
  3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling
  4. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (If she finishes Midnight Sun before I go to the island, I’d like to take that instead, please.)
  5. The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
  6. The Complete Works of William Shakespeare by William Shakespeare (I argue that this isn’t cheating since the prompt says books and not stories.)
  7. The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien (I actually haven’t read this one yet. I figure being stranded on an island finally leaves me with no excuse not to read it. And it can’t hurt to have a bit of Aragorn with me. )
Which 7 books would you bring?

  1. Oooh, some of my favorites — The Outsiders, of course, but also anything Harry Potter and Tim O'Brien's collection of short stories was one of my favorites to teach back when I suffered through teaching.

Off to do my own post now!

  2. Here's my list:

    1. Bible
    2. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
    3. Really good seafood cookbook
    4. The Complete Works, William Shakespeare
    5. Oxford dictionary
    6. The American Red Cross First Aid and Safety Handbook
    7. The Army Survival handbook
    8. How to build a boat
    9. Sailing 101
    10. Physicians desk reference

This is only if I stayed alive long enough to read these before I went into panic mode. 🙂

  3. Hmmm, tough question… it would be easier if it wasn't individual books…
Twilight series, Harry Potter's, The Last Promise and The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans… The Notebook and…
acutally, I should do what Yvette did! LOL! 😉
